Choose to learn a brief amount about 4 of the following characters and their practices, or choose 1 to learn about them in detail:

  • Bidford-on-Avon Cunning Woman (7th century);
  • Bald (9th century) - compiler of 3 Leechbooks;
  • Hildegard of Bingen (1098-1179) - German Benedictine abbess, writer, composer, philosopher, Christian mystic, visionary, and polymath;
  • Gilbertus Anglicus (c.1180-c.1250) - English physician;
  • John of Arderne (1307-1392) - the father of English surgery;
  • John Bradmore (d. 1412) - famously treated the future Henry V

  • Overview: 6 foods/drinks are provided to sample covering the Anglo-Saxons, through Vikings, Normans and Medieval period;
  • Anglo-Saxons: 6 foods/drinks are provided to sample from this period of history;

A session of historic games and pastimes, from hood throwing and whipping tops to dice and board games. Very Involved
Viking Food and Drink

Works well as a Cub Scout session, max 32 people (1st Horsford & St.Faiths helped me test it!)
3 original recipes for Viking flatbread can be made and cooked on fire, or in a kitchen if there is access to one.

Historic Braids
  • Anglo-Saxon: have a go at recreating 2 English braids from the 5th to 8th century.
  • Viking: have a go at recreating 2 braids from Viking Age Scandinavia.
